Yes, we Love pets at Beechland Campground & The Refuge. We ask that your dogs remained leashed while camping with us and that you clean up after your pet.

This is our dog park (named after Sassfras which was a major export in Beechland). Please travel down Fannin Mill road to access this dog park and not through the lots of our campers.

If  you cannot fit on the gravel pad at Beechland we ask that you PLEASE park in the overflow parking lot in front of the bathhouse! Please do not park on the road or in the grass. Unfortunately, we do not have overflow parking at The Refuge. This is why it is so important not to bring trailers with you during your stay. Please reach out to Kathy at The Refuge if you cannot fit within your gravel parking pad.

Unfortunately, we do not allow boat, flat trailer or utility trailer parking. We have plenty of wonderful local businesses that provide this type of storage. Many even have facilities to wash your boat and keep it salt free during your stay on the Outer Banks.

Roanoke Island Outdoors is the parent company of both The Refuge on Roanoke Island & Beechland Campground. Nothing has changed, we’re still the same family owned campground that has operated The Refuge for over 20 years, we’ve just changed the name a bit to include both of our campgrounds on one site!

The Refuge is on the Southern end of Roanoke Island, in Wanchese, North Carolina. Beechland is on the Northern end of the Island in Manteo, NC. The campgrounds are less than 10 minutes apart and very similar in how they were developed. The Refuge has been serving travelers on the Outer Banks for over 20 years where Beechland opened in 2021.

Beechland is within walking distance to the town of Manteo where the Refuge is tucked away in the fishing village of Wanchese. Both feature heated swimming pools and bathhouses. The Refuge provides a boardwalk to walk your pets while Beechland offers a dogpark.

With beautiful vistas over the marsh at both locations we are very sensitive about fires. We do not allow firepits or any open flame with the exception of grills at either location. Thank you for helping keep our community safe by keeping our campground free of open flames and fireworks.

E-Bikes have been a wonderful tool to extend traveling distances for campers and we believe biking is a great way to tour Roanoke Island. That said, we ask that you walk your e-bikes on property and do not mount them until you are off campground property and onto the street. Campers under the age of 16 are not allowed to operate motorized vehicles of any kind on property.

Golf carts are welcome at both campgrounds, however if your golf cart is not street legal then by state law they are not allowed on the roads of Wanchese or Manteo.

You may find, that if you are just using your golf cart on property, it may not be worth the effort of packing. However, if you do have a street legal golf cart and wish to go into town from Beechland Campground it is a great way to get around.

Remember, you must be 16 or older to operate any motorized vehicle while on campground property.
